Case:
The virtual machine system is Windows, using the SQL Server database; using multiple ESX Server as a storage cluster. Among them, one ESX system was mistakenly deleted by an administrator.
Solution:
The engineer used the DD command to import the entire ESX Server storage into a single disk, and the original storage was only 1.4 T.The VMFS file system data recovery software of the ESX system that we independently develops is recovered. The software scan the directory information, but the files of the target virtual machine are all 0 bytes. Inode has emptied important information, and the conventional methods cannot be restored. The disaster recovery function of the software was successfully found the original 30G virtual disk, but there was no file name and other information. After the recovery is completed, it is passed into a Winhex and opened. The file system is completely normal. The MSSQL library is restored, adding, DBCC detection, which is completely normal.Because the customer needs to start the virtual function, this also needs to restore the description file of the virtual disk. The description file of the disk is very small. Generally, it is less than 1K. Use Winhex to search in the VMFS meta -file area and quickly find it.Create a new virtual machine on ESX, pass the virtual disk and virtual disk description file, add disk, and successfully start.
